Mercury Engineering’s BIM Department have recently been awarded the BSI Kitemark for BIM Level 2 accreditation (PAS 1192-2:2013, BS 1192:2007 and BS 1192-2:2014).
This was the culmination of a year’s work to reorganise their BIM Department and to establish the team as having reached the highest possible standards in Building Information Management or BIM as it’s more commonly known.
According to Sean Dowd, Mercury Group BIM Manager, “This BSI Kitemark is the ultimate accolade and recognises that our BIM team constantly strives for higher levels of standardisation while adopting consistent and demonstrable workflows for BIM.”
BSI, the British Standards Institute, launched the Kitemark for BIM in 2016 to help construction businesses around the world prove their capabilities in delivering projects at the design and construction phase. The BSI Kitemark is one of the most recognisable trust marks in existence today, and for over 100 years, and demonstrates that each Kitemark approved product or service has gone above and beyond the normal requirements to achieve the highest standards.
The Kitemark for BIM Level 2 builds on the BSI Kitemark for PAS 1192-2 (Design and Construction) and provides the most robust measurement of an organisation’s delivery of BIM projects, certifying businesses for their diligence in design and construction, asset management, supply chain management, delivery of customer service excellence and information security.
Seen as a game-changer for the construction industry, BIM is a collaborative way of working that uses digital technologies to enable more efficient methods of design and construction, ultimately driving out waste and inefficiency. BIM is an increasingly important part of the global construction marketplace, with governments around the world starting to make it a condition of contact. Since 2016, the UK government has required construction suppliers tendering for centrally-procured government projects, including buildings and infrastructure, to be working at BIM Level 2.
