BIM and Lean at the CitA BIM Gathering 2015

0

Building Information Modelling and Lean Construction are two prominent topics in the Irish Construction Industry. It is understandable why ‘Lean Transformation’ is one of the thematic topics of the CitA BIM Gathering 2015.

When discussing Lean Construction in May of this year, Irish Building magazine described Lean in Ireland as follows: ‘Ireland is on its way to becoming a centre of excellence for Lean Construction, a discipline that sees all participants working on a cycle of continuous improvement to increase value and reduce waste.’ The link to the Irish building magazine article below gives an overview of the development of Lean Construction in Ireland.

The Gathering programme lists the following talks in the Lean Transformation session on Day 1:

  • Comparative analysis of existing BIM guides.
  • Systems of systems and BIM: An integrated future for infrastructure delivery
  • How AVEVA software can help you satisfy BIM

On-site construction has been called expensive and inefficient. There is a global trend towards off-site construction and pre-fabrication, based on manufacturing, and Lean Construction – evident in the delivery of prefabricated housing. BIM is bringing savings to construction. BIM will be a contributor to the reduction of waste, and with Lean construction will provide an interesting combination for contactors and building professions seeking efficiencies in construction.
